We just had steady rain showers (much needed for the drought we are in) and it's a reminder that winter is quickly approaching.
Some quick tips to prepare for winter and hopefully prevent any winter repair items:
Heating
Make sure you continue to change your AC filter monthly, even during the winter. Nothing will make an air conditioning/heating unit fail quicker then a dirty air filter.
Exterior Pipes
Make sure you cover all exterior water faucets. You can pick up the styrofoam covers at Home Depot for approx. $2/each. Wrap an old rag over the faucet, and cover with the styrofoam cover. Busted pipes are never fun! Make sure you flush the sprinkler system as well to prevent those pipes from busting.
Interior Water Pipes
On the nights when it will be below freezing, we recommend you leave a few water faucets with a slow drip. This helps the water circulate through the pipes and will hopefully help prevent them from freezing. Nothing is as uncomfortable as waking up on a cold morning without a hot shower! Also open the cabinet doors to help the heat circulate to the plumbing fixtures.
If you need any assistance please contact us and we can send you the name/number of a contractor to help you with these tasks.
We hope you enjoy the Holiday season!
